Members and non-members welcome.
Non-members are required to contact the hike leader by 6 pm the evening before to ensure that this hike is suitable for you.
ORTA Map 0; Town of Caledon, Peel Region; Oak Ridges Main Trail, Western Terminus to Palgrave; 10 km; 3 hours including the shuttle; moderate-fast pace (4-4.5 km/hr).
We will be starting the hike with 600 metres of the Bruce Trail before we hit the western terminus of the Oak Ridges Trail. The hike takes us through woods in the Palgrave area with some hills to navigate along the way. We will be hiking within the Palgrave Forest and Wildlife Area which is managed by the Toronto Region Conservation Authority. Occasionally road walking will be required to stay on the trail. This will be a through hike, not a loop hike – we will be meeting at the endpoint, doing a shuttle to the start point, and then hiking west towards the endpoint. One or more volunteers will be needed to be shuttle drivers. No dogs please.
Bring icers, water, and snacks. For anyone starting or working on an End-to-End Hike this will be the first of an occasional series of hikes along the Oak Ridges Main Trail, mostly on the off-road sections, starting in the west and working eastwards into Durham Region. Optional extra for this hike: Lunch in Palgrave at the Caledon Hills Brewing Company.
Registration is limited to 12 hikers.
